News from the Corner

Greetings from William & Grace at Dagoretti Corner.

Dear <<First Name>>,

The Elyon High School soccer teams, male and female, were both successful in inter-school competition last week. Both teams are through to the semi finals of the Nairobi zone. Juliana, who has been mentioned in previous newsletters, was a key participant in the girls' team. The soccer teams are in need of sponsorship of around $250 to cover transport and lunches.

We have selected 40 Form 1 (year 9) students for Elyon High School, and most of them are starting this week. Students in Forms 2 to 4 (years 10 to 12) started the academic year in early January, and are already taking mid-term examinations. We have 9 girls and 7 boys in our boarding dormitories.

Our deadline for paying exam registration fees for Form 4 students has been extended to the end of February. Many thanks to those who have helped cover the fees for some of the students. Ten of our 32 students are still in need of sponsorship to cover this fee ($95 each). If you can help, please let us know.

Grace returned from Uganda last week together with Rob Corners from Australia, following an eventful journey in public buses. While in Uganda, they taught church planting, stewardship and discipleship at the Kamidakan Bible School. Rob has now updated our school computers and will be running a Bible training program in Nairobi over the next two weeks.

We had a youth rally at Dagoretti Corner Baptist Church on Sunday, organised by Joseph Ocho, the assistant pastor of Gatwikira Baptist Church. The 17 churches in our zone were invited, and many young people came.

Pastor Chengo from the Tumaini Baptist Church, the church located on Kenya's South Coast that we support with annual missions, has been accepted for a diploma course at Malindi Bible School. He is seeking sponsorship of $450 per year to cover the course fees.

A new city is being planned for Kenya. Konza City is planned to be a technology city, with a university and a range of high-tech businesses, located 60km from Nairobi and connected by a high-speed rail link. There is a 6-acre parcel of land available in the Konza City area at a cost of around $30,000, and this would potentially be an advantageous site for relocating our currently overcrowded schools, if any of our donors are interested in making the investment.

Please Pray For:

  • The students who are starting Form 1 at Elyon High School
  • School music and anthem recordings which our students are planning to make this year
  • Funds to complete the registration of Form 4 students for end-of-year exams
  • The forthcoming Bible training seminars with Rob Corners
  • Security in Kenya, particularly with regard to al Shabaab and cattle rustling
