News from the Corner

Greetings from William & Grace at Dagoretti Corner.

Dear <<First Name>>,

Exams started last week for the 43 Elyon High School students who are sitting their final exams. The exam room has been very full, and the students have had to battle their way through rain and mud to get to school. This year another school is looking after the examination supervisors, which means that William and Grace are relieved of the burden of providing transport and food.

Tobias, the headmaster of the Dagoretti Corner Primary School, is recovering from an illness. He reports that a ten-year-old boy from the school was molested by thugs who broke into the house when his mother was out; he has been hospitalized for a month. One teacher may be suspended for indiscipline.

The Gatwikira Primary School is doing well, with about 50 children at present. Negotiations are under way to remove permanent partitions, which were installed instead of moveable partitions, as the permanent partitions prevent the building from being used for church services.

A group of pastors are looking for cheap ways to construct houses for people who cannot otherwise afford housing. They hope to find a standard design for making houses from mud bricks or blocks so that the only costs are for labour and roofing material. If anyone has any relevant knowledge, please speak up.

Work is progressing on William and Grace's house. Thank you to all who have made generous gifts.

Please Pray For:

  • The students who are sitting their exams
  • Tobias, the headmaster who is recovering from serious illness
  • The many children in the Dagoretti Corner district schools who have very difficult home lives
  • New ways of constructing affordable housing for the homeless
